PERIOD Late nineteenth century, early twentieth century AUTHOR Edward CHAPPEL , also known as Edouard Chappel, was a painter of Belgian-British origin, born October 24, 1859, in Antwerp, Belgium, and died in 1946 in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp with Charles Verlat and continued his training in Paris at the Académie Julian. His art reflected the influence of Flemish and Dutch artistic traditions, but as time went on, Chappel began to experiment with new styles. After moving to London in 1890, Chappel established himself as a renowned painter of landscapes and still lifes. His works were prized for their ability to evoke distinctive atmospheres, capturing the essence of British natural scenes with a distinctive touch. Throughout his career, he has exhibited his works in various shows and they have won recognition throughout the United Kingdom and abroad.
