ORIGIN Italy PERIOD 1950s AUTHOR Marcello FANTONI Marcello Fantoni, sculptor, medalist and ceramist, was born in Florence in 1915 and studied in his city at the Porta Romana Art Institute, student of, among others, Libero Andreotti, Bruno Innocenti, Gianni Vagnetti and Carlo Guerrini. After his years of training, starting from 1934, he worked in various ceramic laboratories and factories including the 'Cantagalli' in Florence, took on the role of artistic director of a small ceramic factory in Perugia and in 1936 opened his own workshop called 'Fantoni Ceramiche', in via Luigi Lanzi 2 in Florence, where it produces both serial furnishing ceramics and sculpture and artistic ceramics. In 1937 he presented some ceramics from his production at the VII National Crafts Exhibition in Florence, attracting public attention for his rustic-style works decorated with African and marine landscapes animated by stylized figures painted in enamel. Subsequently he opened a collaboration with the 'C.I.M.A.' and between the end of the 1930s and the early 1940s he created models for the Perugian factory 'La Salamandra'. The war years saw him as a partisan in the mountains and in the early post-war years he found employment at the 'Maioliche Deruta' factory. In the 1950s he restarted his own business in the premises at number 45 in via Lanzi, in Florence where he began to dedicate himself to the creation of large sculptures. A great experimenter of matter, he is an interpreter of different artistic currents from Twentieth Centuryism to Primitivism, from Cubism to Abstractionism up to the Informal and Minimalism of his latest works. Starting in 1970, in his studio, he founded the International School of Ceramic Art and dedicated himself to teaching and experimenting with high-temperature firing. In 2000, Florence dedicated a large anthological exhibition to him entitled 'Ceramics as Art, Marcello Fantoni ceramist and sculptor' set up at the Salone delle Regie Poste and in 2005 the Archaeological Museum of Fiesole dedicated an important solo exhibition to him entitled 'Marcello Fantoni, a beautiful shape with a beautiful color'. ORIGEN Italia PERIODO DÉCADA DE 1950 AUTOR Marcello FANTONI Marcello Fantoni, escultor, medallista y ceramista, nació en Florencia en 1915 y estudió en su ciudad en el Instituto de Arte Porta Romana, alumno, entre otros, de Libero Andreotti, Bruno Innocenti, Gianni Vagnetti y Carlo Guerrini. Tras sus años de formación, a partir de 1934, trabajó en diversos laboratorios y fábricas de cerámica, entre ellos el "Cantagalli" de Florencia, asumió el cargo de director artístico de una pequeña fábrica de cerámica de Perugia y en 1936 abrió su propio taller, llamado "Fantoni Ceramiche", en via Luigi Lanzi 2 de Florencia, donde produce tanto cerámica de decoración en serie como escultura y cerámica artística. En 1937 presentó algunas cerámicas de su producción en la VII Exposición Nacional de Artesanía de Florencia, atrayendo la atención del público por sus obras de estilo rústico decoradas con paisajes africanos y marinos animados por figuras estilizadas pintadas con esmalte. Posteriormente inició una colaboración con el "C.I.M.A." y entre finales de los años treinta y principios de los cuarenta creó modelos para la fábrica peruana "La Salamandra". En los años de la guerra fue partisano en las montañas y a principios de la posguerra trabajó en la fábrica Maioliche Deruta. En la década de 1950 reemprendió su propio negocio en los locales del número 45 de la calle Lanzi, en Florencia, donde comenzó a dedicarse a la creación de esculturas de gran tamaño. Gran experimentador de la materia, es intérprete de diferentes corrientes artísticas desde el Siglo XX al Primitivismo, del Cubismo al Abstraccionismo hasta el Informalismo y Minimalismo de sus últimas obras. A partir de 1970 fundó en su estudio la Escuela Internacional de Arte Cerámico y se dedicó a la enseñanza y a la experimentación con la cocción a alta temperatura. En 2000, Florencia le dedicó una gran exposición antológica titulada "La cerámica como arte, Marcello Fantoni ceramista y escultor" instalada en el Salone delle Regie Poste y en 2005 el Museo Arqueológico de Fiesole le dedicó una importante exposición individual titulada "Marcello Fantoni, una bella forma con un bello color".
